My Students
Did you ever hear of an historical account and think where was this again? Or why would those countries have a conflict like that? Geography is increasing in its importance and students are becoming less and less aware of where things are in the world.
At our school, we have students from a broad range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
While they have many differences, they still have a lot of things in common. They are kids who like to have fun and want to succeed and make a difference in their world.
My students have shown great potential and I cannot wait to see what they will do as they use their education to impact people around them. They are writers, scientists, engineers, artists, politicians, teachers, and much, much more. They will be fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who will reach into the lives of future generations and make a change that will alter the destinies of thousands, if not millions.
My Project
Every day is a Social Studies classroom we discuss countries, cities, valleys, mountains, rivers, oceans, events, places, and people. All of these are tied to a geographical context. We will use these maps to identify where each of these are in the world. With a dry erase marker my students can circle and label a variety of standards from our lessons.
They will learn the relationships between countries and how these relationships caused events that led to world conflicts and resolutions. They will also learn how mountains, rivers, oceans, longitude, and latitude affect a nations weather, agriculture, economy, government, and many other aspects of the past, present, and future of the world.
My students need to understand how the geographical context of a nation affects its place in history.
This will not only impact how they learn what took place in the past, but will help them understand modern conflicts in our world today. This will help them to lead well informed lives. As they grow into the leaders they are meant to be they can influence their world for the better.
