Help me give my students a writing station that promotes creativity and a joy for writing. My list includes everything they need to get them excited for writing, including writing boards that will help them practice their writing.
Our school is nestled in the small town in Missouri. We are a small school with a big heart for our kids. Most of the students live in very low income families. My first grade students come from a very high poverty area where children receive free school lunches. Local churches, businesses, and the school provide "food bags" in which the students are sent home with nonperishable food to eat over the weekend.
At our school we do whatever it takes to educate students, because our students deserve the best education possible.
My students are an incredible group of kids who are excited to learn and push themselves daily. These kiddos struggle to overcome everyday challenges. I have 20 students that struggle with challenges of living in poverty and need every opportunity available to encourage a love of learning. They are fun, energetic, and love attending school. And, they deserve everything our school can offer.
My Project
My students all have a story to tell, a past, feelings, and not many of them know ways to express their emotions. I encourage my students to write their story and to tell whats on their mind. I encourage them to write about their feelings, their dreams, but to also write the stories that will make them laugh. The materials purchased will build on this skill. It will build on their writing with fluency and accuracy. It will instill confidence in my students by providing them will materials to help them in the writing process by practicing words, and sentences, and having everything they need to sit and write.
This is my goal for my students.
I want them to remember where they come from but to always be encouraged, have goals, and know that they can achieve greatness and go farther than they could imagine. The materials purchased will create a writing center for students to have a space to think, to create, and to use their imagination. It will also make our interactive writing and language lessons more exciting for the students.
