Help me give my students basic school supplies like pencils, pens, and colored pencils so they can continue non-computer based activities like free-writing, note-taking, and drawing.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When schools shut down in NYC, it pushed my students and me into unknown territory. My students have struggled - some with the loss of loved ones to this disease, others with food security, most just with the grief of losing the daily ritual of going to school to see their other family - their teachers and classmates. It has been the simple things though that have really driven home the isolation of learning during this time. The simplest thing, giving a student a pencil when they need one, suddenly became impossible.
My students live in some of the hardest-hit areas of New York City.
They and their families have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, losing loved ones, losing jobs, losing the stability of a predictable school day. Many have regularly felt the stress of not knowing where their next meal is going to come from.
My Project
I don't know what the next few months are going to bring for my students and my school. I do know that no matter when we return to school, or what that may look like, my students are going to need the supplies they always need to keep learning: pencils, pens, notebooks, and the other "first day of school" items we all associate with being in class. For distance learning and so much more, computers are necessary, but a pencil and pen can get a lot more bang for the buck.
This small act, giving them a pencil bag full of supplies they can use to keep learning, takes the pressure off of them and their families to pay for school supplies.
Giving them this bag of tools for learning also shows them we care about them and their education. They need that message right now that there are people who care not just if they live or die by this terrible virus, but that they deserve the tools to grow and thrive.
