Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a small, fully inclusive charter school, where almost seventy percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I work with students who are labeled in many ways: ELL, LD, ID, apraxic, autistic, ADD, ADHD, ODD, and the list go on. I'm working to help students remove their labels and find their feet, as well as their voices.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is their thirst for creative learning opportunities.
My Project
This project is all about financial literacy. It will include picture books about lemonade in the summer, fictional characters, as well as supply and demand stories that center around the same theme- lemonade stands. This project will also include lemonade juicers, dispensers, supplies to share, and table cloths.
When students design, make, price, research, and sell a product- it is engraved in their minds forever.
Students will use these resources to create, make, price, and sell their very own lemonade. Students will begin by watching large scale operations, slogan and advertising strategies, and researching recipes. Students will have to use a budget to purchase their lemons or limes. Students will then juice their own product, name it and design a bottle. We will then have an end of the year lemonade war. Parents will be invited for the presentations and taste tests will be decided on, throughout the entire 3rd-grade population and we will graph/display the results. It will be a refreshing way to end the school year and our unit on money. When life gives you lemons- make it delicious.
