This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am so lucky to have so many amazing students in my class this year! They are so eager to learn, and could not wait to be back in the classroom. I think back to myself as a fourth-grader, and I remember my classroom library lighting a spark inside me. Each book I read, character I loved, or a setting I dreamed to visit further fueled this spark. Being exposed to great literature helped to develop my love for literacy. My students deserve the same experience.
All of my students come from different backgrounds, have different interests, and have different identities.
It is crucial to have a library with variety to ensure each child can find a book or series they connect with. This connection can start a love of books! Due to the COVID epidemic libraries are not as safe to visit, as the children I teach are not old enough to be vaccinated. They have had over a year of internet books, and now yearn to hold a book, a real book in their hands.
My Project
Our classroom library has been so loved! It’s time for an update. Many of the books are old, outdated, or just not interesting. The children have been reading books from devices due to COVID-19 for over a year and we need to get real books back in their hands.
Working in a public school can be hard due to the lack of money for basics, such as a great classroom library.
I need to ensure my library is packed with engaging texts so children learn to love reading. They need texts that interest and inspire them. Please help us fill my library with books that the children love!
