This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We spend so much time asking children to "sit still". Guess what? Some children just cannot sit still, and it is unfair of us to request that of them. As an adult with a touch of ADD myself I can understand how difficult it is to remain focused on one task for what feels like a lengthy period of time, so I try not to request that of the children. If rocking/stimming and a bit of movement helps my little Bumblebees concentrate, then let's get them moving gently and safely. The seats and cushions I have requested will enable the children to wobble and softly rock while seated, These items will help them learn to use their disabilities to their own advantages.
Sometimes it's the little things that mean the most.
A simple thing like a wobbly chair or a cushion that allows a feeling of being suspended makes all the difference in the world. Comfort is key in a world full of restriction, and a comfortable child is a child free to learn and explore. I can't ask for more than that.
