Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine how you would look like when you are 100 years old? On the 100th day of school my students are going to create a self-portrait of themselves at 100 years old. They will then tell me how they will be when they are 100 years old.
My students are kindergartners.
They attend a public school who's emphasis is science and technology. Most of them live below the poverty level. About one third of my students come from farm worker families. They are a mix of English Language Learners and a few who's primary Language is English. They are eager to learn, intelligent, and love it when I teach them how to draw.
My Project
My students are kindergartners they are learning the proper way to hold a pencil. The pencils I am requesting are My First Tri-Write Pencils. They are great for children that are learning how to hold a pencil. We will be using these pencils when sketching their portraits. We will be filling in their sketches with pastels. We will finish of the project by gluing several items such as cotton balls for hair and buttons for earrings.
This project is important because it gives the students an understanding of the aging process.
They will learn that their skin will wrinkle, they hair will turn gray, they may need glasses to see. This project will allow them to reflect on aging and those around them and how they cope with the aging process.
