Help me give my students the opportunity to build their reading muscles and engage with interesting fiction and non-fiction texts! We will use the TIME for Kids throughout the year to practice comprehension strategies in non-fiction texts!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a New York public elementary school that serves a diversity of learners. In our school, the populations of students vary greatly with students who receive special education services, students who are gifted and talented, and students who are on the Autism Spectrum. There are a number of learning styles that are represented by our school and especially in our classroom!
The first-grade students in my classroom vary in reading levels.
With these materials, my co-teacher and I will be able to help them become confident and successful readers!
My Project
When our first graders are "book shopping," we want for them to be excited to get new books and learn new things! Getting higher level books like "Mouse Tales" are guaranteed to see that positive reaction as they advance through levels throughout the year.
First grade is such an incredibly important time in a student's literacy development.
Not only do they make incredible strides in reading levels, but their identity as readers becomes informed by their experiences in the lower grades.
Having the materials like TIME for Kids and "Amazing Sharks" will allow our students to apply their skills in reading and learning from non-fiction texts in engaging and meaningful ways!
