When I Grow Up

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach 4 and 5-year-old preschoolers who live in a low-income area. Over half of our school population receives ESOL services. Over 75 % of our students receive free lunch. Many of them come from areas where funds are very limited, so we try very hard to bring as many resources as possible to their world. Most live in low-income housing and school plays a big part in their daily needs. I love the spirit of my students because they are always eager to explore and learn new things. I work very hard in keeping their classroom environment engaging for them to keep being excited about learning. They have many special talents from painting pictures, designing their own plays from books read to them, becoming authors of their own books, and building things they have discovered in their world. Planning and cooking meals to taking care of their pretend home. My students stay very engaged and happy. They have a full understanding that learning through play is beneficial to reach their educational goals.

My Project

The materials I selected for my classroom will help my students continue to build on their career readiness path. The roller coaster kit will stimulate future engineers and robotic scientists. I will use materials to teach about physical forces. Hopscotch will be used to teach numbers and number order using large gross motor skills. Having the drying rack will support my teaching of self-help skills to independently place your art masterpiece somewhere safe for our future illustrator or painter. Every genius needs a comfortable spot to think about his goals and share them with his or her teacher.
