This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic 4 year olds who love to learn! Our class is made up of 8 boys and 10 girls. Our small school is a kind and caring learning environment, nestled in a neighborhood just outside of downtown Los Angeles. Approximately 75% of our students are considered economically disadvantaged and qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our population is diverse with students coming from many ethnic backgrounds. We have received the honors of Title I High Achieving School and California Distinguished School.
My Project
The dramatic play area is one of my students' favorite activities! They love pretending to be a mom, a firefighter, a police officer, or a mail carrier. We do have some costumes and props, but we definitely need an upgrade.
For 4 year olds, dramatic play is a wonderful way to use creativity and imagination, develop vocabulary, and practice social skills.
For my students who are learning English as their second language, this vocabulary development is crucial to their academic success. The development and practice of social and emotional skills will help my students be happy and successful in life.
