Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you played dress up? Do you remember how it felt to walk in those shoes? Do you remember how fun it was to pretend to be a teacher, a doctor, a police officer, and so on? My students need these costumes in order to explore the world of dress up and pretend.
I have the privilege of teaching three, four, and five year olds in a public school in Illinois.
Many of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We have suffered tremendous budgetary cuts. Therefore, our supplies are very limited. The children love to pretend. If they could add dress up clothes, their experiences would be taken to the next level.
My Project
My students love to play dress up. They would be able to dress up as a doctor and use a stethoscope to check heartbeats. They would be dressed as a fire fighter to put out the fire. They would be dressed as a police officer writing the tickets. Their use of language in role playing would increase tremendously. The children would be enjoying their learning. After all, they may be doctors, police officers, fire fighters, etc. when they grow up.
Your generosity will give the children in my class opportunities to pretend what they want to be when they grow up.
They will be developing language skills, role playing, turn taking, writing, measuring, and so much more.
