Help me give my students access to me. I've had to drive up to a random school, to sit in the parking lot to connect to the wifi due to the condition of my current laptop.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach Kindergarten at an underprivileged school. My students have lower economic status and do not have adequate resources to foster their learning. All our students receive free lunches, my school is now a feeding site for families in need. In my class, I have 6 different languages spoken and 10 different countries represented. Technology has been our only form of communication. I am missing my students like crazy and I try to communicate with them every chance I get. We have recently been hugely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and have been focused to join the world in virtual learning, and oh boy, it's been an adjustment for us all. But, I have still put in 100% effort in trying to meet the needs of all my students from home.
My Project
I have a laptop that was given to me by the district. However, I've had to drive up to a random school within the district to sit in the parking lot to connect to the wifi due to the secure school network to connect and now my computer is running on a delay with all the updates that are being provided. It's been a big inconvenience trying to keep up with my students not knowing if my computer will work during the times needed. I have had to use my cellphone to connect to meetings and email parents. Technology allows me to make contact with each of my 22 students, twice a week including our weekly zoom meeting. My students' needs are dear to my heart. This computer will allow me to meet the needs of my students for our weekly communication needs, and also provide support if any issue may arise.
