My students need to replace damaged wheel chair accessories that are essential to their lives. The PLA filament is for our 3D printing learning activities. They also need non-school clothes and shoes that were lost.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We're a Title I school in Houston with high rates of mobility & poverty. I have had the luxury of growing together with my students for 4 years now in some cases. That lets me know them well and allows us to push the boundaries of learning. I hold my students up to the same high expectations that are pushed for district-wide. Our city and local community was greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. My students lost some wheel chair accessories to floods.
These "special-needs designed" materials are expensive, but are highly needed!
All were safe though and that's what is important. At the time of the Hurricane, they mostly lost just some clothes and some furniture that was replaced by the outpouring of support since then, but some are too expensive! But not the cold, the Hurricane or their disabilities can stop them from coming to school and giving it their all! Because of them, their persistence and perseverance, I won "Teacher of the Year" this school year! But they are the true champions and with your help, I want to replace those accessories and more.
My Project
We need to praise our students because children’s motivation develops through positive experiences. Children can become self-motivated when their natural curiosity is encouraged and supported.
Unfortunately, for my students it is extra difficult to get that motivation because a lot of their experiences are not positive and their curiosity is hard to encourage when they don't have clothes or shoes at home; even harder if their disability does not allow them to keep their head from falling over.
The head support system that they wear broke and cannot be easily replaced. I have tried fixing them with rubber bands and hot glue, but to no avail. The classroom picture is a head support system that I have tried to fix, even using a green elastic pant strip to replace another broken silicone strap. The 3D printing PLA is something that has really acquired their curiosity and I know DonorsChoose and its wonderful donors can help me out with this almost impossible task.
