Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love teaching first graders. They are sweet, eager to learn, and excited to please. It’s very fulfilling to see the amount of growth first graders make in a school year. Teaching my students to read is probably my favorite part. I love seeing how they gain confidence in themselves as readers. Being able to watch them get exicted about visiting the school library and classroom library makes all the hard work worthwhile. I would love to be able to foster a love of reading in my students.

My Project

By having a range of reading materials at various levels, my students will be able to practice their reading skills and hopefully fall in love with reading just as I have. Many of my students come from low income families and they simply don’t have enough money for “extras” such as books. A lot of low income families also don’t have the means to give their children various life and learning experiences, and I feel a good book is able to do that for them. I would like to have as many available options as possible for my students to choose books on their reading level and on topics of interest to them.
