Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When you start off the year as a teacher you have many goals. Those goals are dependent on what you want the students to accomplish by the end of the year. Who do you want them to become?
I want my students to have a sense of autonomy!
I want them to pick good books and read them because they want to. I want my students to have strategies that are theirs so they feel like they always have a way. I want the students to light a fire of learning not fill a bucket.
These items, seat sacks and table bins just seem like organizational tools used in the classroom. The seat sacks are where all the students possessions in the classroom go. Their identity is partially tied to that seat sack. To have a nice new seat sack based on a color they choose sets them up for success the rest of the year. The bins allow there to be a community at each table where the students share materials. These materials are the first step in class towards the students having autonomy over their learning.
