My students are in 8th grade Algebra I and Math 8 class. Many of my students have struggled with math in the past which is why I love teaching math. The differences in their math background allows my students to look toward each other as a resource to help them learn.
This year I would like to incorporate themed units with more projects and activities to help them grasp the material.
My students are very active and we often do group work. My goal is to add more project supplies to the classroom to have available to the students.
We are requesting materials to do more themes in the classroom this year. Themes help connect topics while seeing that math can be fun.
My Project
From summer to math class, this ice cream theme will ease the transition. The banners will provide an interactive way for my students to sort and order numbers then display their knowledge. The plates will be used to create the real number system and help the students see the connections.
Challenge my students with the ice cream boxes.
By storing the questions inside of the boxes the students do not know the question until they pick the box instead of picking based on the questions difficulty level.
We will finish the unit with the popsicle sticks. Students will find the square root of the number on the popsicle stick and then use the price tags to round to the nearest tenths place on each side of the value. Help them get the price right with this interactive activity.
