Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

W.B. Yeats once said, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." My class is full of explorers. They're always looking for ways of lighting that fire in their learning. I want them to feel comfortable using technology in different ways as it's so important to their growth!

My students are third graders who come from diverse backgrounds within this urban area.

They're epic bucket fillers, always looking for ways to share their learning and help one another. Internet access is something a lot of students don't have readily available, making their comfort with utilizing technology for research and learning much more difficult. I want to bridge that gap. My school uses perseverance and encouragement as a gear for driving their learning. This is predominantly a low socio-economic school but we've been collaboratively pushing to not let this hinder the possibilities we can give our children in their learning at school.

My Project

There are so many opportunities on any given day where my students ask those bigger, more in depth questions that tell us more about what they're thinking when they're learning. It can be difficult not having on-hand technology to look into those questions. I want my students to have readily available tablets to use on all subjects: as a research tool in social studies and science, as a listening center, to build their math fact skills, to practice presenting information on, and to watch educational videos.

This technology can be used in all areas, making it versatile and allowing the students to become more comfortable with their newfound technology-filled environment.

These days, technology is everywhere and used on most everything and students need to be at the forefront, learning how to manipulate technology to get their ideas heard, to learn about what they're interested, and to build on their knowledge. By having these tablets, I hope to open up a new world for them where ideas are endless!
