This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 5th-grade team's goal is to use our pre-existing garden area, for our year-long showcase STEM project. The goal is to get the students to identify the problem. Our garden soil is missing nutrients because we live in the desert. Using our matter unit, we want them to observe the parts of the soil the dirt is missing and figure out how to add different substances "matter" (composting, water, and bugs) to enrich the soil. Moving towards our energy systems nutritarians and human consumption of plants for energy in our health unit.

We plan on inviting people within the community to explain farming and algaculture as part of career exploration and understanding of our environment systems. We also plan on using our garden boxes to understand mathematical concepts such as volume, mass, and area.
