My students need these science instant learning centers to allow them to explore using hands on materials. These centers will also reinforce information from lessons.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a classroom full of eager and curious second graders. My students believe that they can do anything! We have our daily routines but we also have fun while learning. When we are doing our science lessons I notice that they are extremely interested and ask very interesting questions .
Ninety percent of the students that attend my school are bilingual.
Their first language is Spanish. The students are very sweet and want to learn but the language barrier makes it very difficult. Many come directly from Mexico not knowing a single word in English. Although I teach in a Hispanic community our curriculum is in English. As students they absorb the English language pretty well by interacting with their peers but they still face major challenges. The majority of their parents only speak Spanish so many are unable to get help doing their homework. There is little or no reinforcement available.
The parents main concern is their child's ability to read. Of course I know that reading is important but I also want my students to develop a love for each and every subject. I feel that providing a variety of materials such as magazines, books and hands on material will help do so. These materials are extremely helpful for English Language Learners.
My Project
I would like to use these materials during my center time. At the end of each day students visit a different center. By the end of the week they would have visited each center. The centers reinforce topics and skills that were previously taught. I currently have the following centers : science, reading, math, social studies and computer. While at the science center the students will be able to read trade books as well as discuss and answer questions that pertain to their Scholastic News articles in small groups. The hands on activities in the science center kits will give my students an opportunity to explore, examine and encourage!
Your donation will provide a variety of materials that will appeal to each child's level.
They will stimulate the kinesthetic, visual and auditory learner. These materials will definitely make a difference in the life of a English Language Learners life. They will also provide positive meaningful experiences. Children learn best through play. I believe that they will have memorable moments based on their activities and accomplishments in the centers.
