My Project

This community service project is “rooted” in a strong belief that when students actively engage in taking a stand in nurturing the environment they grow in empathy, leadership, and develop into compassionate citizens. This initiative empowers our students to revive and nurture local community trees, create pollinator-friendly gardens, and engage with the community to develop sustainable green spaces. Locally around our school there are many trees and rain gardens that are full of weeds, garbage and failing trees.

What I love most about my students is their joy of learning and the awakening that can be seen when they engage in hands-on learning with direct visual results Their enthusiasm is contagious and inspires everyone around them to get involved.

The resources chosen will assist students, who are in wheelchairs and motor issues, access and engage in the community service project to increase pollinators, clean up and restore community rain gardens and aid in tree revitalizations.

-A lightweight folding table will allow materials to be set up next to a rain garden, students in wheelchairs can access seeds, shovels, etc. from this table.

-Grow lights, plant nutrition and seeds are to develop seedlings in the classroom to be transplanted to the community rain gardens and community gardens located in the local park.

-Aprons will be decorated with slogans the students develop such as the “Community pollinators” etc.

-Grabber tools will be used by students with motor difficulties to collect garbage from the community rain gardens.

-Butterflies will be raised in the classroom and released in the community to -foster pollination

-Shoe covers will help everyone stay clean as some areas in the local community that need revitalization are covered in filth and are unhealthy to track back .
