Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi! I am a first grade teacher in a wonderful school. We have a large population of students who receive free or reduced lunch. Over the last few years, our English as Second Language (ESL) students have gradually increased.
Our ESL students are absolutely amazing. They come to school with little or no English. They are so eager to learn our language and learn how to read.
I am constantly looking for activities that my ESL students can do independently as I am working with a reading group.
I finally found an activity that will promote my ESL students' vocabulary. It is a machine that reads a magnetic strip on a card. The cards have vocabulary and sight words on them. My ESL students can slide these cards through and practice speaking and reading English. They can do this independently so they would not be intimidated or embarrassed to practice in front of others.
In this proposal, I am asking for two card reader machines plus two sets of vocabulary words. I know this will help my ESL students.
Thank you for reading my proposal.
