My students need a set of primary and intermediate level dictionaries to use in the classroom.

My Students

What happens when you don't know how to spell a word or what it means? You look it up. My students don't have that luxury since our classroom lacks that basic essential tool, a dictionary.

I teach a mixed 5th and 6th grade class of special education students that have a variety of disabilities.

They also have a wide range of reading abilities that cover 2nd to 6th grade. Our school is located in a highly impoverished area of the inner city with 98% of our families on welfare. The current economic conditions have made supplies scarce and it is difficult for our families to help out our classrooms given their situations.

My Project

With these dictionaries my students will be able to improve both their reading and writing skills and reach their full potential in school. With these skills under their belts they will be able to move on to middle and high school and achieve the dream of a diploma. With that in hand they can become productive citizens with the knowledge that they can overcome their disabilities.
