There are football schools and there are basketball schools. Then there is my school - a soccer school. I would love to help an awesome group of young men on the freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity soccer teams. This talented group of athletes are a mix of nationalities, with the varsity team hailing an impressive 17-0-2 record and No. 1 ranking in one national poll. Their secret weapon is diversity. They are a direct reflection of the game's worldwide reach and the neighborhood they represent. Our district is one of Houston's most diverse communities.
We are a Title I school, and seventy-eight percent of the students are economically disadvantaged.
Many of the athletes are also first generation immigrants with English as their second language. These young men are also hard-working, dedicated, and committed to playing soccer. Despite the economic disadvantages and lack of needed equipment, the program has successfully reached the playoffs year after year.
Rather than just doing calisthenics when their practice field is not available. The team will be able to use the soccer nets in the gym and practice their shooting, passing and first touch skills. The small-sided games allow the team to get as many touches as possible and improve their skills. The soccer tennis nets will give the athletes the opportunity to do tactical work.
The teams will have more options and flexibility, especially during inclement weather.
The varsity team is currently in the process of pursuing a regional championship. The resources will help further their success for years to come.
