Have you ever been frustrated because you wanted to give your children an opportunity but lacked the resources to do so? Such is my dilemma with these fourth and sixth grade students in my inner city classroom.
My students want to become global scientists, conducting environmental studies and experiments to determine the state of the water and soil around them and to share it with their peers and community.
We are an inner city school with no budget for anything, including science materials or even classroom supplies! My students want to learn the things that other students have been learning and to put their new found knowledge into practice. These are urban students who have never thought about the 'outside world' before or how their actions might impact their water and their food supply. They lack the resources to put these ideas into practice by doing something besides reading a very outdated, well worn textbook. They are expected to produce a science fair project but have nothing to do it with.
My Project
By providing them with science test kits, goggles to protect themselves with, and a flash drive with which to save their completed work, you will have enabled them to enter the playing field more confident, well able to complete with their suburban counterparts, and perhaps find a career within the environmental work force. Citizen scientists can become those who Teach for the Planet and make a difference in the world of tomorrow. Can you imagine the look on their face when they are able to actually conduct a real experiment? How about watching them choose a career outside of the inner city because they have been exposed to other scientists who make a difference?
You can make this possible by donating to their education and providing an opportunity for someone to make a difference in tomorrow.
You never know who your donation can impact the lives of others until you see the results of your kindness. Please consider helping these students reach for the stars of their dreams by nuking it possible for them to conduct these valuable experiments and learning how to present their projects to their community and their peers.
