My Project
As the Library Media Specialist at my school, I have the opportunity to work closely with all grade levels. I co-teach with each of my First-grade teachers. During the week I am with my First Grade students, I want to have book bags that have predictable text picture books for the children to take home. Using a predictable text will help the children be able to participate as they read the book with their families. I have picked book series the children are familiar with such as There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed...., Never Take Your Dragon..., and How Dinosaurs Say.
I have started a reading 20 mins a day Initiative with the students.
Each bag will contain a book and a fun activity to complete with their family. I will have all the materials they need in their book bag. They can return it the next day and get a new book bag with a different book and activity. These book bags will provide new reading material for the children.
Each month I sponsor different reading challenges and this month's challenge is a calendar filled with different reading activities. They must complete all the activities and return them to the library at the end of the month to be put into a drawing for prizes. Each activity includes 20 minutes of reading.
