"Where we start is not where we will finish," is the perfect statement to describe my students. They are often thought of as trouble-makers; however, my students are bright and want to learn. We work hard to dispel that stereotype.
The students in my class are economically challenged.
Despite this set back, I have seen some students come in below grade-level and leave scholars. However, it took a lot of work on their part. My school is in an inner city neighborhood and there are many who believe the only way out is through sports but I say NO.
My Project
After completing a Financial Literacy project about the fine print and fees associated with checking accounts, my students had additional questions banking fees. We had a discussion about which type of the accounts would be best for teenagers who want to open their first account.
Student who can learn to manage their money today will become the fiscally responsible adults of tomorrow.
We need a new printer to print out copies of the account details associated with opening a new account. Students will highlight those "hidden fees" that they feel they are most susceptible to. Then the students will make an informed decision to as to which bank and account to put their money in.
