This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The goal for our early childhood program is to prepare our students to be "kindergarten ready." My students come to class always ready to learn and as their teacher it is my job to provide many opportunities for them to learn different skills that will prepare them for kindergarten.
Our school is located in the downtown area and my class consist of 20 students, who come from a diverse background, ranging from 3-5 years old.
Most of my students come from low income families and some have disabilities.
My Project
The sink and range(stove) in our dramatic play area is falling apart and it needs to be replaced. My students enjoys role-playing in the dramatic play area and having a new sink and range can help them to continue to take on the roles of different characters and help develop their social skills.
With the new sink and range, my students can role-play washing dishes, giving the dolls or stuffed animals a bath in the sink.
With the range, they can take on the role of a chef and pretend to cook food for their friends or act out the way their parents cook for them at home.
