This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"What's a tape player?" "How do you work it?" my students asked me the first day of school when I was showing them the listening center.

My students are eager first graders ready to learn and ready to read!

I have students that are not only trying to learn the content but also trying to learn a new language as they come from other countries. My students also move throughout the year to different schools and I get new students monthly. This is a challenge for students to move schools so often because they will miss an objective along the way. I have to make every minute I have with them count because they could be moving schools.

My Project

Listening to someone read a book models flunecy that my students need in order to be a successful reader. My students will be able to track print, learn new words and listen to someone read fluently. Also, listening to someone read a book shares a love of reading. Many students do not like to read due to the lack of someone else reading to them fluently. I read stories to my students daily to model the love of reading but I want them to hear more books read to them when I am working with other students.

A listening station is important in a primary classroom because children need to listen to someone reading fluently in order for them to become a successful reader.

I want my students to love to read. My goal is for every student to become a successful reader.
