This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Although my students come from an economically challenging environment, many of them really have the intrinsic desire to be great, and I'm excited to be a part of that journey! My students come from diverse backgrounds, but I believe all of them are capable of learning. I believe with the right opportunities they will all succeed academically. As their teacher I recognize their need and I am dedicated to giving all of my students the best opportunities to succeed in and outside the classroom.
My Project
With these books my students will have exposure to books on their level and of interest that will hopefully cultivate a love for reading. Having books they enjoy, books that help them explore and books that inform them of important people, places and things will build their schema. Independent reading is more of a reality when students have access to books that are on their level. This class library will allow me to replace old/damaged books that were previously owned by other teachers with new books students would be drawn to reading. I want my students to be excited to read. The more they read, the more they know/grow.
