My Project

When my daughter was in middle school she came home and explained every piece of decoration in her language arts teacher's classroom. My daughter is Asian and she notices differences. This teacher had rainbows and different colored hands posters among other things. This was 4 years ago and I so vividly remember the conversation. This teacher's decorations made an impact on my daughter. The decorations said, "Everyone is welcome." I want to give that to my students.

Kids should know right when they walk in the room that they are accepted for who they are!

I want them to see rainbows and multicultural artwork. I want them to know that I know that those things matter. I know that just seeing rainbows and different colored hands can impact a child. It did that for my daughter. My goal with this project is to continue to be better with all my students. I want them to know that I accept them. Identity is so important. Racial representation is so important. I am here to find a way to show every student that my classroom is accepting and loving from the very first second.
