I teach 2nd grade at a small Title I school in an urban community. I have 6 English Language Learners and students that receive Resource Services. I have a vibrant and energetic group of scholars this year.
By the end of the school year, I want my students to reach their fullest potential in math.
In order to do this, I need to meet them where they are. Because they are at various ability levels, I do this by using Guided Math and small group instruction. Small group instruction gives me the opportunity to provide instruction and address student needs right away.
There is no better feeling than seeing your student's confidence increase as they grasp a concept or gain understanding. Once their understanding increases, they are eager to share their knowledge and help others. In addition, the joy on their faces when they take a post-test and see their growth is indescribable.
My Project
I am requesting dry erase boards and markers to be used during math instruction. Students will be able to work out problems on their boards. They can also be used for quick responses to questions.
Using manipulatives helps students grasp concepts with greater ease and makes a difference in their learning.
The spinners will be used in small groups to play games as a review that correlates to standards we are working on. The coins will be used for counting money and to show various combinations of coins that have the same value. Once students have come up with an amount, the coin stamps will be used to document what they have learned.
