My students need various math centers to enhance their mathematical skills. These hands on engaging activities include math centers focusing on number recognition, addition, number order and shapes.
Imagine walking into a Kindergarten classroom. You will hear their powerful voices sharing knowledge with one another and learning from their peers. My students are from a large inner city school district that lacks funds to support their eagerness to learn and grow. Despite the minimal support my students are engaged and ready to learn. They smile when new books are read or their Kindergarten favorite text is reread. Their eyes open wide as a new math center is added and they get to explore. They are intrigued when they make connections as they learn about community helpers in our Social Studies unit. They jump with excitement with we uncover our new science topic and experiments. Their young minds are ready to learn and grow inside of the safe and risk taking environment.
My Project
My students love math! They love numbers, shapes, graphing and exploring many of the wonderful math concepts taught in Kindergarten. The items chosen will specifically enhance the skills that they are working on each day. Students will be reviewing number recognition, one to one correspondence, number order and shapes. Students will be able to work together with peers to interact with the centers during math. The hands on materials from play dough to magnets keep the children engaged. They will also be able to develop their fine motor skills, which is essential in the Kindergarten year. Kindergarten math is incredibly fun. These math centers will keep their busy minds going and increasing their curiosity to learn more.
