My Students

I have the privilege to work with wonderful, curious, creative, and caring 7th and 8th graders in Chinatown in New York City. I teach in inclusion classes (both general education students and students with special needs). It is so wonderful to see all of the students guiding each other's learning throughout each school day, be it in a core academic subject, a group project, or while using technology.

I teach at a Title I school which is located near several housing projects.

Many of the students receive free lunch. Most of the students speak Chinese and English, and my school is predominantly made up of Chinese, African-American, and Hispanic children. My school puts an emphasis on making sure all students feel successful across subjects. My students are always excited to learn new things, use new materials, and have new experiences!

My Project

While learning remotely for the last year and a half, my students have become much more technologically literate. They learned to utilize their devices to access materials, type, create projects and graphics, read ebooks and audiobooks, and communicate with their peers and teachers.

With a fast, new laptop in my classrooms, my students will be able to translate their newfound technology skills to in-person learning!

Many of my students who struggle with handwriting prefer to type while others prefer to do creative assignments on computers, and this piece of technology would enable them to do so. Also, this new laptop will enable me to show my students educational videos, models and examples, and help them stay engaged in their work.
