Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Maria Montessori once said, “What the hand does, the mind remembers.” Although I do not teach in a Montessori school, I strongly agree that students in the primary grades benefit from activities where they are able to develop their fine motor skills. Fine motor skills involve small muscles working with the brain and nervous system to control movements in areas such as the hands, fingers, lips, tongue and eyes. With the exclusion of imaginary social play in kindergarten, our students are in real need of these types of activities. Developing fine motor skills helps children do things like eating, writing, manipulating objects and getting dressed. Skills that are imperative to our students.

By developing their fine motor skills, the information they gain is internalized, helping to form their brain, their personality, and their lifelong learning patterns.

These materials will also be used by our special needs students. Our special needs students, more so, need good fine motor skills to carry out activities of daily living, like feeding and dressing themselves, playing with toys, and using a pen, or a tablet, for our non-verbal students. The items on our wish list will enable our students to develop their fine motor skills and be more prepared for their life as they grow.
