My school is working to become better and better every year. I teach third grade at P.S. 251 in the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn, New York. My school is a Title 1 school and over 80% of our students receive free lunch. In my classroom, I administer different assessments to see where my students may need more help. In math, we do inventory tests, daily kid-watching and other unit tests to see where our kids need help. In reading, we use an ECLAS assessments along with a Rigby Assessment to see what reading level the child is reading at. A Rigby assessment also allows teachers to evaluate where a student is having trouble in areas such as: fluency, decoding, or comprehension difficulty. My school has over fifty classroom teachers and only a couple of kits to go around the school. Sometimes I must wait over a month for a kit to use when the benchmarks may be due within the next week. This not only hurts my students, but the students in the other teachers' classes as well. Assessment is never something that should be rushed. It may be weeks before the kit circulates to you and valuable learning and planning time passes. It's not an ideal situation. I am asking for a Rigby PM Ultra Benchmark Kit for reading assessment to share with my grade so we can better evaluate our children and in a more frequent and timely fashion. I know it will help our students target their problem areas more efficiently and help our lessons become more tailored to their needs. Thank you so much for your consideration.
