This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In 2nd grade at our school, we serve a variety of children who come from a variety of different backgrounds. The students in my classroom all share something in common: they are learning English. Their brains are constantly working hard in two languages and they impress me every day. I want to make the classroom time as enjoyable and enriching as I possibly can to help them become successful people in the future. My students deserve the best our education can offer them. I don't want them to be held back because of their situation or the financial needs of the district and state.
My Project
School started last week and as I was getting my classroom ready for a new school year, one of my bookshelves broke. It had been in the classroom for many years and it finally couldn't hold the weight anymore. I also discovered another bookshelf that was very wobbly therefore I could not use it to its full potential. This leaves my students with boxes of books that are covering the floor. This is not the best way for the classroom to be set up.
A learning space has been stolen by boxes of books because their books do not have a place on a safe shelf.
With new bookshelves my students' classroom would have more functional space where they could learn.
In addition to broken bookshelves, I learned that my classroom does not have enough unbroken personal whiteboards for my students. With personal whiteboards my students are able to show me their learning quickly so that I may make adjustments to my teaching to best accommodate where they are at. These whiteboards would be used in every subject from math to grammar as an engaging tool for students and a beneficial guide for the teacher.
