Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day. On average, 2-3 students in my classroom are considered homeless and struggle to find suitable housing. They qualify for assistance through The McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.

I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors to provide these supplies.

My Project

This year, teachers were told that the school would no longer supply colored pencils to the students. What? What school does not have colored pencils? Apparently, ours does not.

I need colored pencils and Sharpie art pens for art projects we are doing in class.

Without the basic art supplies, we are unable to color in our art projects after we learn about Vincent Van Gogh and Georgia O’Keeffe.

Each year, we make a large collage where each student receives a piece of the portrait and makes it their own either with colored pencils or acrylic art pens. With the basic art supplies, the students will be able to color in their piece.

Thank you for considering our project.
