Have you ever lost track of time because you were so engrossed in an activity? As a teacher I love hearing my students say "Math class is over already?!" My class lacks the variety of materials to have center time on a regular basis.
My 4th grade students have a wide-range of ability levels and many different learning styles.
They love to experience learning in different ways (not just listening to me talk all period) and centers are a great way to give them that opportunity. My students enjoy them because they get to move around and practice a variety of skills at one time. Many of my students feel more comfortable expressing their ideas in a small group setting vs whole group.
My Project
I want to provide my students with math experiences that relate to the real world. The Restaurant & Mall Math resources will allow my students to use the skills learned in class in practical situations. These materials will be used in small group setting where students can work cooperatively to solve problems while I give instruction in small groups. My students thrive on "game" type activities. I am asking for several tic-tac-toe type resources that the students would be motivated to work with.
Your donation will make it possible for my students to get more individualized attention during guided math time and the opportunity to have authentic math conversations with other students.
It will also allow them to be more independent learners.
