I’ve been teaching a genetics unit for 5 years now, and it’s still one of the most complex and abstract concepts that my students cover. Taking about cellular structures that stretch miles long inside each of our cells is more than most can comprehend. With the materials listed here, like the chromosome kits, students will be able to model this cellular process in real life!
The hands-on lab activities in this project will demonstrate the inner workings of the students’ own genome, helping them to build their understanding of what makes them uniquely individual!
Students need to see, and feel through their world in order to make their learning last. Having these lab supplies will help me create fun and engaging classroom activities where I’m not simply instructing or lecturing, but guiding the students’ discovery.
