Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thank you for taking the time to look into my project. My name is Veronica; I am the teacher of 13 little ones who are currently in a Preschool Self-Contained Disabilities room. I started the 20th of February and have slowly been trying to switch out items that are not supportive or need some updating. One of the areas that needs work is the library. Since our children range from early 3 year olds to 5 year olds with disabilities, we have various books that are bitten, torn, stained, you name it.
I am looking for support in providing age-appropriate books that will support growth in all areas and represent the diversity in our classroom.
The children truly love books, but will often be limited to only a few due to the condition of most. I am asking for board books and hardcover books of various topics some related to the senses, colors, alphabet, numbers, and characteristics of the children. I am asking for board books (along with hardcover books) which allow me to be able to make adaptive, interactive books by laminating pictures that they can match to the book pages. Since the majority of our children do not speak, I am also asking for storytelling items. These items will support the children in retelling stories without needing to use their voice (since they are still developing that skill). These storytelling items can also serve as a way to engage the children in reading and finding a love for language.
Exposure to language is extremely important at a young age; my goal is to create a space where the children are actively engaged in exploring language through multiple outlets. Thank you.
