My Project
In our high school biology classroom, students are eager to explore the real-world applications of genetics—but their opportunities are limited to simulations and textbook examples. With your support, I hope to bring DNA electrophoresis into our lab so students can observe genetic differences firsthand. This project will fund a complete DNA electrophoresis and visualization kit, including the necessary equipment and step-by-step guides, allowing students to extract, load, and analyze DNA just like practicing scientists.
Hands-on science should not be a privilege.
Yet in our Title I urban school, every student faces the reality that most laboratory experiences are out of reach due to a lack of funding and resources. While our students are bright, curious, and deeply engaged in learning, they often encounter science only through digital simulations and worksheets. This project will change that. By bringing electrophoresis equipment into the classroom, we can provide access to the kinds of high-level, inquiry-based lab experiences typically reserved for well-funded schools. Students will not only visualize DNA separation and analyze genetic differences—they’ll also build critical STEM skills that prepare them for college-level biology and careers in health and science.
