Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. We are an inner-city, Title 1 school where we have approximately 1100 students, K-5.
Our STEAM school strives to give our students opportunities inside and outside of the classroom that they may not normally be able to experience or be able to afford.
We are a school rich in tradition and history where generations of families have attended or are attending as we speak!
We have students who are so eager to learn despite what they come with from home that they are truly inspirational individuals. It is one of the reasons why I have been teaching here for over 20 years!
My Project
With budget cuts, we take for granted simple supplies and materials that teachers and students rely on, on a daily basis.
Year to year, we are faced with the challenge of making sure our students are able to access reading material at their levels and this year is no exception!
We want our students to succeed and to keep a positive attitude towards learning. With lower level, high interest reading material, I can do just that.
In addition, our budget does not afford us to invest in heavy duty pencil sharpeners that our classes desperately need.I have gone through about 5 pencil sharpeners, and when asked for a heavy duty one that will last, unfortunately, it is just not in our school budget. My students have been bringing little hand held ones which of course, ends up being a mess on my floor. So, the sharpener I chose, I know will do the trick!
With your help, my students will have the materials they need to ensure that they will make gains this school year, not only in literacy, but in mathematics and throughout the curriculum. We are truly excited!
