This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every year, I start the first day of school with butterflies in my stomach, like most of my students. This year I know I will have those butterflies mixed with a pit in my stomach due to all the uncertainties.
This will be the first time my class will walk into our school/classroom since March 13, 2020.
It is my job to be there, and to welcome them the best way I can in a very different teaching/learning environment. In our class, you will see students working independently, in centers, and in small groups eager to learn. These centers/small groups will look different but our attitudes, relationships and work ethic will be what matters. Students will have goals and I will be their to support them along the way. My goals will look different this year, but I know my class and parents will support me to get them accomplished.
My Project
So much is happening all around us, and it's time that students understand it on their level. Time For Kids is a weekly magazine that will help students dissect the world around them. Time For Kids will give the students the tools they need to help enhance their reading, writing skills and keep them up to date with current topics. Since our classroom library is limited, students will be allowed to bring these home and do their reading/writing activity without worrying they don’t have a book. Time For Kids also comes with a digital subscription, which will be perfect for hybrid or online learning. Students can submit their work digitally without any concerns. This year I have partnered up with a 4th grade class from each of the 50 states. We will send out postcards from Connecticut, with all the important facts of Connecticut and what it's like living here. We will have a map of the USA in our class and attached a postcard as we receive them from others.
This will not only help us learn about what is going around our country, but it will also bring us closer to other fourth grade students from all over the United States.
