Do you remember what it was like to perform science experiments at school? My students often have to watch me or a video when doing a science experiment because we don't have the resources available.
My students are inquisitive, creative, and thrilled when working hands on!
They enjoy experimenting and being junior scientists. Our school has about 300 students in grades K-5. Our school is small but close. All of the teachers share materials. The new common core standards are challenging but will push our students to work to their full potential. Last year I used magnets from my fridge to teach the magnet standards. There was little hand on learning because of the limited resources. My students deserve the same experiences we had as children. I am trying to provide this for them.
My Project
The magnet standards for second grade are rigorous. The students will use the materials in experiments, small group learning centers, whole group learning, and investigation stations. I think one of the most important aspects of scientific learning is experimenting! Inquiry based learning is so important especially in the younger grades. Last year I used my fridge magnets - this year I want to surprise the kids with incredible science materials!
Help give my students a science experience they will remember!
I hope that my students will gain excitement about science and experimenting. Provide them hands on learning with real materials - not my fridge magnets! Thank you!
