This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Do you remember thinking learning about fractions was difficult? Concepts like fraction equivalence and adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators are abstract and very difficult for students to conceptualize.
A recent published study from a current issue of the peer-reviewed journal Psychological Science found, "That understanding fractions and division at age 10 predicted algebra and overall math achievement in high school." For this reason I would like this fractions on a number line magnetic white board, so students can have a lot of experience developing their conceptual understanding of fractions working with partners.
They will have the tools and be able to explain their reasoning. Having the lines drawn for them will help them make comparisons with precision.
