Mrs. Chapman from Firebaugh CA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

What in the World??

My students need high-interest materials that help them relate to the world around them. The Scholastic magazines focus on current events and Science topics that would be of interest to them.

My Students

Our students are an awesome group of kids that have so much pride for their school and community. This small farming community sits in the middle of the Central Valley, surrounded by agricultural land in all directions.

Most of our students come from low-income households, with limited experiences and resources outside of our small community.

94.6% of our students are Hispanic, second language learners whose parents are field workers. 93% of our students receive a free or reduced lunch daily.

Our students have a great interest in the world outside of this small community, a desire to learn, and an appreciation for the resources provided to them.

My Project

The project funding would provide my students with weekly magazines that include new topics that are interesting to students. Articles are written at their specific grade level, with pictures, captions, and questions that explain the topic in detail.

Scholastic Science Magazines would get my students thinking like scientists and engineers with current topics written at their reading level.

They reinforce essential science lessons with real-world applications. Each story includes print and digital resources to help me meet my teaching objectives.

The second set of materials is Scholastic News. These magazines include authentically written journalism about current topics and events in our world. Magazines arrive in a monthly bundle that is written specifically for each grade level. These articles get students excited about reading, helps build literacy skills and encourages students to become informed active citizens.
