This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I take pride in teaching the works of William Shakespeare in unconventional ways, as it helps create the interest I need to keep students motivated. As we read, analyze, take deep dives, debate, and sometimes act out different tragedies, I always ask my students "What if...?"

Students love to ponder what a story would be like if things happened differently; why not give them the chance to read an alternate version of Shakespeare's best works?

The novel "Enter the Body" does exactly that as it gives four of Shakespeare's most famous female characters the opportunity to retell their own stories. I plan to use this book as a supplement to the Tragedy of Hamlet and focus on the character of Ophelia. This material is aimed to generate discussion in my classroom as students debate the life and death of the female character and how Hamlet treats his love interest.
