My Project
I am a math teacher who used to HATE math class, mostly because I wanted to spend my time doodling in my notebook instead of moving numbers around in seemingly arbitrary ways. Keep, Change, Flip? More like blah, Blah, BLAH. In my classroom, students are introduced to new math concepts with ART and STORIES instead of STEPS and PROCEDURES.
Math is a Story, I use art to bring that story to life - an iPad would make the impossible seem within reach for me and my students.
When solving equations, my students are introduced to the GRAPES OF MATH! Dividing fractions? Let me introduce you to the EDAMAME EEL. When math is story instead of a set of steps to memorize, the learning comes to life. Students are much more willing to grapple with the parts they find initially confusing.
Bob Ross and Mr. Rodgers were my two favorite teachers growing up. My goal is to make the math classroom a community where students feel safe, cared for, and believed in so that their creativity can push their learning to new heights. My students are 6th graders attending a public school in New York City and are some of the most energetic and thoughtful problem solvers I have met. Please help me show them how creative and brilliant they already are!
