My students need a video camera to see themselves read and improve their reading abilities. With the use of a camcorder students will see themselves reading and work to correct reading mistakes. Students will be filmed during each grading period and a permanent record of their reading progress will be created. In addition, the reading records will be sent home for parents to view.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade in an area with high poverty. My school is located in the inner city. Unemployment and underachievement are unfortunate hallmarks in this area. I want my students to be able to break free of this cycle of failure. My students strive daily to improve their reading ability. We use many different resources to try to overcome reading disabilities. My classroom includes special education students as well as students who are learning English.
I believe that my students strive to succeed in school. My students love school and I want this love of school to continue. I know it will if all students view themselves as successful. With a camcorder to record their reading my students will know what they need to work on to improve their oral reading ability. Students will be able to see their progress and will feel proud of their improvements. Parents will also be able to see the progress and improvements of their children.
Children hear me tell them what needs to be improved but need to see what needs improvement, too. The requested camcorder will be used as a student tool to improve student reading abilities.
Please empower my students with a gift of a camcorder to improve their reading skills. The future of our country depends upon what these students are empowered to achieve. Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
