This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach High School Biology and Environmental Science to English Language Learners in an economically challenged urban district in New Jersey.
My students are trying desperately to learn Science and English at the same time. Our textbooks are in English and although they have a glossary for scientific terms there are many words they are unfamiliar with. The paperback dictionaries that some can afford are rarely good enough to help them.
Having better quality hardcover dictionaries available to students in the classroom will greatly help them locate words they cannot find in the paperbacks. This will help them understand the topics they are reading and expand their growing vocabulary.
Our school is in very short supply of just about everything. Your donation is probably the only way these high quality dictionaries will be available for students to use.
